We awoke last night to the sound of a cow bellowing, but not much you can do in the pitch black. On investigation the next morning, I discovered her calf had somehow managed to disappear into a hole below ground level!
Furthermore, whilst it was up to its belly in water, it had also put its head into a drainage pipe. After a quick phone call, help arrived in the guise of my sister Judy and brother-in-law Mark. By this time I had managed to free the calf’s head. With me halfway in the hole, we managed to pass a strap under its belly behind the front legs and, between us, managed to haul the calf out and reunite it with its mother. Apart from a bit of mud, the calf was none the worse for its ordeal.
